Though I'm trying extremely hard to veer away from fast-fashion houses like Forever 21, this vest was one of the best last purchases I ever made from there. Vests, well, at least the ones I'm used to wearing, typically have a length that rest at the hip, but this one was definitely an exception... and has maybe even started a new obsession for me: calf-length vests. And maybe even robes. And jackets. Oh, and blazers! Oh my.

I started an all veggie-fruit-organic diet on Monday and as an effect broke out from all the detoxing. To follow through with going organic, as well as the vicious fact that I've been using chemicals on my skin since I was 13 and they have not been helping me in any way whatsoever (despite it being 10+ years later), I've been trying a bunch of easy homemade masks that have been doing me some good thus far. The baking soda and honey mask (found here) has been an amazing natural remedy that dried out unwanted pimples overnight and kept the rest of my skin nicely exfoliated and smooth. As a moisturizer, I alternated between jojoba oil, which stimulates the production of collagen and helps heal wounds faster, and olive oil. It may sound incredibly unappealing to rub olive oil on already oily skin, but it's a great way to treat acne naturally. Olive oil has been a natural remedy by women for thousands of years as it is full of Vitamin E and antioxidants, which keep your skin nicely hydrated and soft, and fights free radicals to slow down the appearance of aging. You can read up more on jojoba oil for acne here and olive oil fighting acne here.

I can't wait for Friday to finally be here - I'm going to the beach (Boracay to be exact) for a friend's bachelorette!

Went extra casual for a mini coffee date with the Boyfriend and decided to go denim on denim. I dunno what it is about this year or what has taken over my decision-making skills when it comes to dressing myself, but wearing monochrome has been one of my biggest go-to's lately. Maybe it's just me, but I think it totally works... and so does Anya Ziourova.

photo

To sum up my week, my days were filled with work and meetings, new opportunities, the Golden Globes, and the mid-week highlight was going to my very first House (music) concert - Swedish House Mafia. House isn't exactly my go-to type of music since I am a loyal hip-hop fan, but I'd definitely recommend going through an experience like that at least once in your life. I had a total Tony Hsieh (Zappos' CEO) moment that he described in his book, Delivering Happiness, about going to a rave with his friends and just wholly and completely soaking up the moment, all the while beginning to understand the importance of people not only sharing a common purpose, but in being a part of something bigger than oneself to truly feel that sense of happiness and joy we all long for.

I've been on the hunt for boxy tops, one with lots of structure and just the right amount of boxy-ness. This top was inspired by this post and I was unexpectedly pleased about getting this outfit on sale. Thank you after-Christmas sales!

/Knotted Hot Pink/

Here's a quickie post of what I wore today...

The boyfriend and I had to attend a family dinner for a birthday occasion so we took some quick pictures with his trusty Iphone on our way over there. I paired this romantic Topshop blouse (last seen here) with a pair of casual camouflage plants that I've been wearing nonstop for the past few weeks.

I know in my last post I mentioned that I could never be able to walk past a Zara store without going in and exiting with a bunch of items I don't really need, but today's a new day. I am determined to test my ability to control the extreme shopper in me.

/Black on Black on Black/

DSC_0845

Though I've always considered black to be one of my all time favorite colors, nothing catches my attention more than a black-on-black-on-black ensemble. So today I decided to get into my favorite color and pep the outfit up with some texture, sheerness, and asymmetry.

I don't know if you notice, but alot, and I mean ALOT of the stuff I post about on this blog are from Forever 21, Zara and H&M... but I can't help it. I can never walk out of their stores empty handed. They're notoriously known to be fast-fashion stores with trendy, affordable clothes, and having low prices always gets a gold star in my book. Though lately Zara's been the bane to my wallet... Walking past their store without eventually going in has got to be a skill I need to acquire.

I've had this vintage top sitting in my closet for about a year now, untouched and unworn. I guess it's because of my fear that it would endure the possibility of succumbing to my clumsiness throughout the day, whether it be spills, stains, and/or rips. But I couldn't resist... this blouse is just WAY too pretty to be kept hidden in a closet. The beautiful gold thread in the stitching and the inimitable eye-catching design were enough to make me not think twice about getting it.

The horses egged on my inner-equestrian so I decided to throw on my best "riding" pants, which of course have faux leather on the sides. Cause all riding pants would look better with a little bit of leather on them.

/A Little Bit Frilly Minded/

DSC_0815 (2)
DSC_0809

My style continuously changes and I can confidently say that my usual uniform of 2012 was shorts, a loose top, and some form of ankle boot with a tiny bit of a heel. With a new year comes a new mindset to change it up a bit, starting with this little frilly number I decided to throw on to brighten up a Thursday.

Wearing a vintage top, Ya Los Angeles skirt -- which I originally bought for a night of salsa dancing back in NYC, Zara heels, and Mango necklace.

Now that I've fully shaken off the holidaze, it's been a week full of work, catching up on some reading and TV shows, cozy late night movies with the Boyfriend, and late late night online window shopping and blog surfing. Ever since seeing these pictures on Gary Pepper Girl's blog, I've been reading up on and am planning a trip to this certain destination later this year with a good friend of mine... I've been hearing that it's one of the must-see places of 2013.
